First Unofficial Meeting

On Monday Aug 6, 2007 , ZH, TW, SY, KH, Ray and Our beloved adviser Mr. Kelvin (Aka *Ice master) had held an unofficial meeting at around 5 pm. The Agenda (there was no agenda anyways) was about the structure of the Club, name of the Club (which i gave in finally after no idea anymore...) and of course words of wisdom from Master Ice on "The ways of making a Club". So far there is not much grand changes but Committee Members had been confirmed (maybe) and these are the current changes

Creation of AISS : BIRTH OF CHANGE? or WASTE OF TIME?

The Creation of AISS (Architecture + Interior Student Society)

On June 15, 2007, Faradiana had put an initiative to create "an Architecture Society" on Friendster. There were a few bunch of students yapping away about the announcement and stuff. The First announcement was about the PAM camp which a small portion of the SAMS student went too (and suffer...lol)-won't want to go into details about that. I personally join in 07/23/07 (kinda nice number huh...) and realized that a name was needed for the club... much had been suggested, tongue slashing, word stabbing, and not related comments was posted all week. Then again it all have to stop rite? So a small group consist of myself, Ziu Hong(ZH), Sin Yi(SY), Teng Wai(TW), Kck Hua(KH), and Fara decided to put an end to all this time wasting on names and sorts.

ON July 30, 2007 , myself, ZH, SY, TW, and KH had finally put our feet down and finalize this club tinggy. The first ever "ALL AGREED" to name was ARCHA (Architecture Chapter), we were going to create a new "Chapter" to the first ever Architecture Society in the school. Then great changes was made after SAMS had taken over the club and turn it into "SAMS Club" changes to even the name was applied therefore AISS was made... or rather enforced...

Thus is the current Committee members :

Plans was made roughly in MSN and short talks in between class and studio time. Tension was high and some people felt left behind but all are well till... we meet again for the next update k...

Architorture... What "We DO" to survive

There is a reason why they call it "Student Society" and why there is a "Committee Members" in the society. Depending on your University or your school, it may as well goes from 10(or lower :P) to 1000 students in it. Take the Hint "The Club and society tinggy is all being nice to fellow members and so that you become sociable"(maybe to the extent of -so that you have more friends other than your "best" friend which maybe went to the same school since Kindergarten to University).

So you tried soloing (pun intended) the Uni life or playing Duo with your "best" friend either being a sidekick or the main hero. The first few months of the First semester works like a Charm you even pass the First Semester with or without blood and tears (maybe even getting great result on your first studio). Except the odd group projects that you have to work with a partner, then again if you have your trustee sidekick you may not even feel this.

BUT, you were stuck everyone in class is either the "Hi,Bye" or the 'smile' and go people (something like "Touch and Go" la)... or even the best one I've personally remembered always, is those who stay quiet all through the class looks at you like "one kind" either they existence is to fill up the empty vortex around you in the class or they are really brilliant gems who sit still deep under the earth crust waiting for a miner to discover it *nostalgic state wiping my eyes dry.

FACE IT! The first year went well without a glitch (other than the awkward assignment partner who either split the Job evenly or did nothing but depend on you cause you know you got to finish it A.S.A.P to get those 10% mark out of it).

Lets put it this way, from the first Studio work till your second semester SOLO tinggy work is designed to polish your "skills" of Architecture. The fundamentals of designing, model making, presentation, meeting DEADlines (always last minute rite?), being the top 3D maker of the class >:) AND of course being the Lecturer's pet. It all ends the moment Studio 2 or 3 comes, or, if you stretch it , when you hit Studio 3 or 4. Architecture has a nice way of pushing you back to the social! Suddenly, all those crazy idiots screaming "Hey, can you help me to solve this Elevation" or "ARGGGG! I can't get an Idea" and my favorite "Hey, why not we work together on this?" make sense, and it dawns to you - You can't do everything yourself!!!

Gone was the time where you can single handedly solve a design, and assignments on all Science subjects and Construction. Hmmm... come to think of it you had always been the One Man Show design, Model Master, and Presentation person - of course you have friends of Seniors that talks like Jedi Architects Student - but you never depend or ask help for any assignments of design classes.

In Studio 1, you were the elite "Minimalist + Decon + Tadao Ando (or whatever is your style and mentor) " passing your studio subjects was as easy that, you get 8 hours sleep every time. Even Studio 2 was like doing sketches. Bottom line you are THE MAN!

So, BOY were you exalted to go solo with Architecture when the world of "MY Architecture Style" beckons. I need no one, you depend on nobody- most of the time... Perfect, for your chunks of one-day-and-a-half to one-week-and-a-half study or designing time. You were Untouchable!

Unfortunately, SAMS (school of Architecture, Management and Surveying) ain't like that. It pays to be sociable and have HUGE network of friends who you can count of making through the semester, when you finally realized that TIME waits for no one and nor does it is reversible. Basically you cant make it alone in Architecture ...

What should a person like me to do? All that short 2-3 Hours class wont help me make enough friends. Then again where is the "WE DO" in the whole of this endless "SOLO" story? Thats when joining a Society comes in the picture...
